Book launched: ‘Dormice & Moonshine: Falling for Slovenia’ is out

I’m pleased to announce that my book – Dormice and Moonshine: Falling for Slovenia – about being seduced by, moving to, and living in Slovenia, is now out and available as an ebook, paperback and hardback from your local Amazon, and in selected bookstores (see details below).

As so little has been written about Slovenia (at least in English), I hope Dormice & Moonshine will add to the literature about what is – in my opinion – a very unique and impressive little country.

Anyone who has visited or lived in Slovenia will likely enjoy the book. It should also appeal to armchair travellers who enjoy travel literature. It’s also a deeper story about where life can take you when you submit to chance, take risks, and venture beyond your own borders.

It’s early days, but so far the book has been well received by readers. Here’s what reviewers are saying:

“Brings Slovenia beautifully to life.”

“Inspirational and made me want to travel again.”

“Offers deep insight into what makes the country tick and is peppered with witty observations, anecdotes and laugh-out-loud moments.”

“As well as being genuinely educational, it’s also a page-turner that’s filled with intriguing stories, observations, and cliffhangers.”

“A great book for anyone who’s considering making the leap to live abroad, is planning on visiting Slovenia or fans of well-written, funny travel literature.”

“Presents a vivid picture of the quirky aspects of the Slovenian culture.”

“A tale of dreams imagined, realised, lost and found again.”

“An amusing, sometimes heart-wrenching, often heart-warming, informative account of a love-affair with a beautiful country which has gone on to shape his life.”

“A dive deep into the culture and nature of Slovenia.”

“I would recommend this book to all the travellers through this little country of ours but even more so to all fellow Slovenes, to read it to see ourselves through a different lens – and to absolutely have a laugh or two.”

“Captivating memoir of life and travels through a picturesque landscape.”

“With vivid descriptions and a brilliant eye for detail, he paints a vivid picture of the Slovenian countryside, immersing us in the beauty and charm of that region.”

“Filled with heartwarming anecdotes and humorous encounters.”

“An enchanting and authentic glimpse of those hidden gems found in the off-the-beaten-path corners of our world.”

“Blends quirkiness, humour and interesting tales together to share his sense of adventure as he goes about this journey of discovery.”

“I haven’t read a book cover to cover in over twenty years – much to my shame, but devoured this one in two days. If you’ve ever been interested in Slovenia beyond a holiday in Ljubljana and Lake Bled this is a must read.”

“An absolute delight, blending humour, education, and a deep dive into the Slovenian culture and nature.”

“Baldwin’s ability to weave personal anecdotes with cultural observations creates a rich tapestry that is both inspiring and relatable.”

“A fascinating insight into the country’s history, culture and identity.”

“A great job at articulating what it’s like here and how it draws you in.”
