I haven’t written much on this blog this year, but things have been happening. This summer, (May 2026), my Slovenian travel-memoir ‘Dormice & Moonshine; Falling for Slovenia‘ was translated and published in Bulgaria by Era Publishing (Издателство ЕРА) under the title: ‘Замъци и сливовица – как се влюбих в Словения’.
I had always nurtured the goal of getting Dormice & Moonshine translated and published in Slovenia – which happened in 2025. But Bulgarian was never on my radar. So it was a pleasant surprise when Era Publishing got in touch out of the blue asking if I would be interested.
They created a lovely new cover design to match the other books in their travel memoir series, and though I can’t vouch for the quality of the translation itself as I don’t speak Bulgarian, the reviews on Goodreads for the Bulgarian edition have been positive so I can conclude they did a pretty good job.
It’s cool to see your work not only in another language, but another script. I think there’s also a market for a German and Dutch translation, seeing both of those countries seem to have a strong affinity for Slovenia. If there’s anyone out there with Dutch or German publishing connections, please get in touch.
In other news, I have been busy refreshing an old Slovenia-linked project. I’m still tweaking things but very soon I’ll be shouting about that here so watch this space…
Congrats!
Can’t wait for the next project!
